Genetic diversity among Tanzanian banana (Musa spp.) varieties assessed by simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers

Genetic diversity among Tanzanian banana (<em>Musa</em> spp.) varieties assessed by simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers

Plant parasitic nematodes significantly affect banana production in Tanzania. The general objective of the Banana Nematodes Baseline Project is to generate information on occurrence, abundance, diversity and distribution of nematodes in banana-growing regions, which will be useful in the development of management strategies for nematodes. This presentation provides an overview of a study that used simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers to assess the genetic diversity of banana genotypes.
